چکیده

This work unravels a sudden deactivation of Pt/TiO2 (P25) during the initial stages of photocatalytic H2 evolution from aqueous solution that, until now, has gone unnoticed, using a unique combination of in situ photodeposition of Pt with an on-line gas detector system. Utilizing a set of techniques, including highresolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS-UV-vis), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and physisorption, we were able to attribute this deactivation to a shift in mechanism, accompanied by an increase in CO concentration. Key to this phenomenon is the ratio of Pt atoms to oxygen vacancies, which were created through ultrasonic pretreatment and in situ UV irradiation in the bulk and surface, respectively. We also observed a potential additional contribution to the deactivation by encapsulation of the Pt nanoparticles, indicating that strong metal−support interaction (SMSI) may indeed happen in aqueous and ambient conditions. Furthermore, we encourage implementing the concept of a “dynamic” catalyst to photochemistry that opens up a new approach toward understanding the complex mechanisms and kinetics in heterogeneous photocatalysis.

One-pot photoassisted synthesis, in situ photocatalytic testing for hydrogen generation and the mechanism of binary nitrogen and copper promoted titanium dioxide.

For the sustainable production of hydrogen by photocatalysis, the use of renewable resources such as water, organic compounds from plant biomass and earth abundant metal promoters is desired. We herein describe the previously not reported "one-pot" photoassisted synthesis of a binary metal-nitrogen promoted Cu(0)-N-TiO2 photocatalyst from a N-TiO2 precursor by photodeposition of copper directly...

Photocatalytic degradation of E. coli bacteria using TiO2/SiO2 nanoparticles with photodeposited platinum

In this work, TiO2 /SiO2 (pure anatase), and TiO2 /SiO2 (anatase/rutile) nano-photocatalysts are prepared by using sol-gel method and control of acidity. The particles size is calculated using Scheerer, s equation and is estimated to be around 7-15 nm. In order to improve the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 /SiO2 ,1% (wt) platinum particles are loaded on both catalysts using photoreductive meth...

Complete hydrogen release from aqueous ammonia-borane over a platinum-loaded titanium dioxide photocatalyst.

Complete H2 release from ammonia-borane (NH3BH3, AB) in water was achieved by using platinum-loaded TiO2 (Pt/TiO2) via two consecutive reaction steps, i.e., hydrolysis of AB and photocatalytic decomposition of thus formed NH3 in water, under inert conditions at 298 K.

Green synthesis of Pt-doped TiO2 nanocrystals with exposed (001) facets and mesoscopic void space for photo-splitting of water under solar irradiation.

We report a non-trivial facile chemical approach using ionic liquid ([bmim][Cl]) as a porogen for the synthesis of (001) faceted TiO2 nanocrystals having mesoscopic void space. This faceted TiO2 nanomaterial has been doped with Pt nanoclusters through chemical impregnation. The resulting Pt-doped TiO2 nanomaterials are thoroughly characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Raman spectrosc...
